Invisible Diseases

So the last few months Ive been suffering from a set of new ailments. Not starting the year well so far.

I had to go to the doctor thinking I had a bladder infection. The doctor called me the next day and told me to go the ER. So the 1st of November I was later admitted to the hospital. After an ultrasound, cat scan and x-rays it was found I am suffering from diverticulitis. After a few days in the hospital, antibiotics in and to take home. Was doing ok afterwards.

I went and had a colonoscopy last week, Friday. They found the diverticulitis all almost together along with polyps which they removed. For the diverticulitis a suggestion of surgically removal of the intestines affected. And then ended up in the ER the same night due to migraines and vomiting, all due to dehydration from the prep for the colonoscopy. Ive been having a very up and down time since the procedure.

Then yesterday I felt like I was having a bladder infection again, and then today the pain was so much worse!! I couldn’t take it anymore I called my doctor and there were no appointments available. I had to go to the ER. They were worried that since it was so soon since my last episode and since I was not well soon after the colonoscopy. They were worried that there could have been perforations because of the colonoscopy or an abscess, had to see via a cat scan. Found that it was just my diverticulitis having another bout. More antibiotics, pain meds, clear diet for a day or two and a surgical consult coming.

I found out that my grandmother (my fathers mother) and my dad suffered/suffer from it. Reading about it in older articles it says that it isn’t genetic, but reading newer ones it seems like it actually maybe.

Our Traditions

Reading another fellow bloggers blog, I thought I would put my 2 cents in.

Depending if we are staying home, going to my parents house or going to my in-laws house is how we celebrate.

To start with my family, to start we are white and practiced basically how my father was brought up. Our traditions always had my friends in awe. My parents were not holiday decorators other than stockings on the mantle, if we had one, and a tree. We didn’t get and put up the tree until Christmas eve and didn’t decorate it until after dinner, and lastly the child (I was an only child) got to open 1 present picked by an adult. We then would get up on Christmas day, only at a decent hour, had to atleast get dressed, brushed teeth and hair. Then we had one person passing each person a present to open one at a time. It took some time on some Christmas’. Then we would have a light breakfast and turkey and all the trimmings around 1-2pm.

My husbands family, being Mexican have more very different traditions. His mother cooks all day Christmas eve, even preparing the day before. Later in the day we get dressed up, around 2pm or so, and all family that can comes over. We have lunch, talk, play games and at dinner we have the meal she has been slaving over all day. We continue talking and such until midnight, at that time we wish everyone well and merry Christmas with hugs all around. We then open presents, differently every time, this year I was picked to go first and open all my presents from everyone and so on. We then talk for alittle more and then say our goodbyes and go to bed. On Christmas day lately my brother in-law, who is younger than my husband, takes the family out for a movie, this year it was Spiderverse. A few years ago it was the last Star Wars movie.

When my hubby and I are home, with/without my kids, they do every other year with their father, we decorate our house the first weekend in December, in and out but no tree due to fuzz butts. On Yule, the 21st, we give a gift to enjoy. On Christmas day we wake up to enjoy gifts after I get the turkey in the oven. Around 2pm we eat and then I deal with clean up with hubbys help. The next few days we enjoy turkey sandwiches, turkey tacos, turkey tamales, etc.

Granted we have not had many Christmas’ together since my husband serves in the military and has been out of country many times, but this is our family and our traditions.

Valentines soap…

Alittle while ago, December 17th to be exact I made what I was calling ChocoBerry soap. To be ready, ok I didn’t calculate the times that great….Im new to making soap, but anyway to be ready for valentine’s day.

I scented it with chocolate covered strawberry scent, via Natures Garden fragrance oil. Well I went, apparently, light handed on the scent.

This was the day after making, unmolded and was disappointed. No scent and it was yellow and red instead of brown and red like a strawberry with chocolate on it.

Later, it has turned the colors I wanted but again no scent.

They are even darker now! I wish I had a picture but Im not where I can get a snip.

Anyway they are luxurious anyway from all the oils used, just not scented as I want. 🤷‍♀️ Live and learn.

Aids in healing….

Yesterday I made a batch of Baby Soft/Sensitive soap.

I unmolded and cut it today. Looks nice!

In the olive oil, I infused calendula, comfrey and chamomile; those aid in healing the skin. I use the calendula and comfrey in my homemade Neosporin and it helps in healing wonderfully!

My next soap, for valentines is going to be made with this!

My Valentines inspired soap, I may call it ChocoBerry. 🤔

Im thinking I should make the middle red and all around brown, just like a chocolate covered berry!

Magical Mermaid Soap

Made a new soap last night, a partial lard bar and it was beautiful when making it, but the cut was even better than I thought it would come out! Thanks to some name suggestions I named this batch Magical Mermaid 🧜‍♀️. The smell is sweet and kind of oceany, it was Sea Salt fragrance from Bramble Berry. It will be wrapped and ready to go mid to late January.

Body butter

Hubby needed some kind of good and moisturizing cream for his feet, that is unscented. So I made my own body butter with avocado oil, coconut oil, shea butter and castor oil.

Out of the remainder of the butter that wouldn’t fit all into this container and added peppermint essential oil and some red mica. So I made Candy Cane Body Butter.

Then I had not quite enough to fill another container like the previous ones, so I made samples.

This body butter, like most of my others is very lightly scented, but luxurious.

Margarita soap

My Margarita soap. I messed up when measuring, luckily I double checked and ‘fixed’ it. I had no idea if it was going to correct my mistake. Also mixing 2 micas together looked like a mess when still in liquid state, but came out so beautiful when dried! This the lard/olive oil mixture and again did beautifully!

Still has to cure a good 4-6 weeks, will have to see what it will look like after curing.

But so far, a wonderful soap!!
