New type of soap…

Friday I made a lard/olive oil soap, Oatmeal, Milk & Honey scented. I was fearful it was not going to set, glad to see I was so wrong!!

They turned out so pretty! I think I am going to make another batch but scented different!

Hidden ailments/diseases

Sooo… I ended up having to go to the doctor, who called the next day to check on me (she told me go to the ER), I go to the ER and spend all day, and then end up having to go right back late in the night/early in the morning (depending on how one looks at it), and then they admit me for 2 days. Feeling awful makes it hard to bear oneself, so I didn’t get any knitting or crochet done while there.

I’ve been diagnosed with diverticulitis, along with a few other things. My grandmother suffered from it and my dad has bouts of it too. During an episode, if you want to call it, or a flare up, antibiotics are needed (which lemme tell ya are nasty tasting and can have some aide effects that are down right miserable). Then a low fiber diet, and alot of limitations to certain types of food, like nuts and seeds for example are no no’s. Then when well, a high fiber diet to keep things rolling.

If you’d like more info on the ailment…. here is a pic of simple terms.

I’m looking at making a batch of soap tomorrow will post then.

I’m here again.

Well again I have just been not in the mood or forgetting things. So Im here again!

So here are my soaps I made, all wrapped up ready to be sold! Kiwi 🥝 Swirl, Mocha Coffee ☕️ and Pink 🍋 Lemonade.

I have samples of the Ocean 🌊 Swirl, Oatmeal, Milk 🥛 & Honey 🍯 and Pink 🍋 Lemonade as well!

I am going to make another batch of soap today or tomorrow. I have been busy with working and trying to find a better job.

I finally got this done! All of it made with yarn I got off wish…not doing that again. Granted it came out looking beautiful, but scratchy.

This is my current project. Asymmetrical Shawl by Red Heart. Got alot of mistakes but it still looks good.

More to come, later.

Ocean Swirl

I can’t believe I have been out of my mind and forgotten to write here.

I made more soap about a week after my first one, it was kinda a mess. I learned a valuable lesson, don’t buy my scents from the local stores, buy it online… but I also learned to look online about my scents because they are not all created equal.

I wanted to make an Ocean Swirl for the next soap. To which I sort of did.

The scent or fragrance should I say, that I used accelerated the soaponification that it got so stiff so quickly that I couldn’t see that there were holes as I was trying to swirl and no matter how much tamping down I did. This fragrance was from an online source.

Then I made another soap, I call Kiwi Swirl, fragrance from a local store and it accelerated the soaping process even more that it was like oatmeal…. then while trying to smooth out the top it started to already gel.

Then after the next day, unmolded and cut, it was seeping oil. I thought I was going to lose my mind. After curing for awhile, it has a few more weeks, but its not oily anymore!

So, because my 1st 2 batches were alittle wonky, I made samples out of them.

I made soap!

I made soap! I am excitedly waiting for them to cure, 4-6 weeks seems like an eternity!

This is my oatmeal, milk & honey. It has colloidal oatmeal, goats milk and TX honey in it. It smells so good!

This is my Ocean Swirl. It smells so clean and refreshing!

I did learn something with both, so learning more as I go. Yay 😁 me!

Soap making

Well, I purchased everything to get atleast one batch if not two different batches of soap done. Unfortunately it is going take awhile to get the supplies to me tho, I thought it would take a few days not over a week.

😔, I guess I have to relearn patience…especially since the setting time for the soap is going to be a month as well.

Adding to my Skills

To start off, I make a variety of homemade skin items.  What I have made in the past: lip balms (variety of flavors), lotion bars, neosporin (which my family swears by and says is better than the store bought stuff), body butter, eczema cream (which I had some say it saved their poor babies skin), sugar scrubs, sun screen, and more I can’t even think of at this time.

Now I am looking into making soap.  I am in the midst of purchasing items to delve into the world of cold process soap making.

homemade-cold-process-soap

It is an interesting process, the first of it is pretty fast, then once in the mold to set is which is atleast 24-48 hours (since it heats up and then sets), this is all before it can be cut into bars.  Then after un-molding the loaf is to be cut into bars and then they have to set for 4-6 weeks to harden to become the best lasting soap bars.  My first batch is going to be oatmeal, milk & honey with oatmeal inside to feel even better.  I am real excited, can hardly wait until I get my shipment in.

Busy or Productive, which are you?

Have you ever considered when you talk to someone about what you say and what you actually mean?  For example when you say that you are or have been busy and what you actually mean is you have been productive?

When talking to someone, and when asked ‘how have you been?’ or ‘what have you been up to?’ and you respond with ‘busy’, do you consider what that actually means?  I know in my generation (and I have no idea what generation I am in or what my kids are in now, but I digress) we were taught to think more about how we say things before we say them.

Busy

Ok, here is what I mean, do you know what the definition of busy actually is, compared to the word productive?

Definition of busy is having a great deal to do or keeping occupied, according to google.

Definition of productive is yielding results, benefits or profits, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary.

Having Time

So, with that being said, are you busy all the time or are you productive, or to think about it, maybe a mix of both?  In today’s society we use some words interchangeably and sometimes too much.

Here’s another question….when one is being productive are they also busy; which is to say, when one is busy are they being productive s well?  Yea I know, makes you actually think!  There are plenty of times I am busy and not being productive but times I am being productive and am busy!

Clean Green

Cleaning Greener

People have asked me in the past how I clean, what do I use…especially when my kids were crawling and moms would say something like, ‘ugh got to watch if they put their hands in their mouths because of the cleaners I use’. I’d just smile and say, ‘nope not in my house…I can eat or drink just about everything if not everything I use to clean with!’

I am always learning new things to clean with and make my house smell fresher and such.

Why Green Clean?

• Safe for you and your family

• Easy on the pocket

• Highly effective

• Environmentally friendly

Facts

• Many household cleaners contain toxic chemicals. These chemicals may cause short-term and long-term health problems when you use them.1

• Children are often more vulnerable to chemical exposure during developmental stages, and certain chemicals may interfere with the development of their neurological, endocrine, and immune systems.2  Main routes of exposure: eating, drinking, breathing, and touching.

• Younger children have higher respiratory rates than adults, therefore they absorb more air contaminants per unit of weight, meaning they experience a higher inhaled dose.2

• According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the air inside a typical home is 200–500 percent more polluted than the air outside mainly due to toxic household cleaning products.

Must-Have Basics

BAKING SODA

Absorbs and eliminates odor. Use to clean countertops, sinks, and tubs. Sprinkle some baking soda on your carpet and vacuum after 15 minutes for a fresher look and feel.

WHITE VINEGAR

Contains natural antifungal and antibacterial properties. Cuts grease and dissolves mineral deposits.

CASTILE SOAP

Lifts dirt, cuts grease, and eliminates tough stains. Pour a small amount over baking sheets and pans then scrub for a few minutes, and you’ll have clean, shiny results.

SALT

Salt is an effective scouring agent. Pour salt mixed with hot water down the kitchen sink regularly to deodorize and keep grease from building up. Mix salt with Lemon essential oil and use to remove stubborn coffee and tea cup stains.

doTERRA FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL or OLIVE OIL

Great natural cleaner and polisher. Rub it into leather or polish wood surfaces. Flip to page 24 for more details.
